Welcome to what we hope is straightforward guidance for parents on what to do when it is time for your child to go to secondary school.
This page is updated with the new dates every May around the time of the Whit holidays.

Entrance exam applications
Online application forms to sit the entrance test for the Trafford Grammar Schools CEM Consortium (Stretford Grammar School, Urmston Grammar, Sale Grammar and Altrincham Grammar School for Girls) are available from Monday 21st May 2018. The closing date for applications is Friday 29th June, 2018.
Please note, to go to Altrincham Grammar School for Boys (AGSB) there is a separate exam. The application deadline for AGSB is Thursday 19th July 2018. Please check other school’s admission policies to see if there is an entrance exam.
Open Evenings for the schools where your child would need to sit an entrance exam are usually at the end of June, when they are in Year 5.
Other schools tend to have their Open Evening in September once your child is in Year 6.

Trinity CE High School, Stretford High, Stretford Grammar, Urmston Grammar, Sale Grammar, Wellacre, Flixton Girls, Chorlton High, Sale High, Lostock, Altrincham Grammar School for Girls, Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, St. Bede’s College, St. Ambrose College.
Entrance exam test
This year’s Trafford Grammar Schools entrance exam takes place on Monday 17th September, 2018. Results for any testing are received no later than 19th October. AGSB exam is on Saturday 15th September 2018.
The Common Preference Form (CPF) is an application that must be returned to your home Local Education Authority (Trafford or Manchester) by 31st October 2018, putting the schools in order of preference.
Please note that a large number of schools also have an additional application process. Please check the school’s own admission’s policies.
National Allocation Day
All children will be informed by their home Local Education Authority which secondary school they have been allocated on 1st March 2019, or on the next working day.
All acceptances must be received by the school by 15th March, 2019.
