At St. Hilda’s we understand that some parents will have concerns around transition to secondary school.
Ms V. Beaumont is the contact at St. Hilda’s for pastoral support and for any further queries relating to transition can be passed to her. Our SENDCO, Mrs Thomas is also available to discuss children with additional needs and will liaise with secondary school SENDCOs regarding extra transition support.
Entrance exam applications
Online application forms to sit the entrance test for the Trafford Grammar Schools CEM Consortium (Stretford Grammar School, Urmston Grammar, Sale Grammar and Altrincham Grammar School for Girls) are usually available from May with the closing date for applications being late June. Please note, to go to Altrincham Grammar School for Boys (AGSB) there is a separate exam. If you would like to know more, please see the following link for further information.
Open Evenings
Open Evenings for the schools where your child would need to sit an entrance exam are usually at the end of June, when they are in Year 5.
Other schools tend to have their Open Evening in September and October once your child is in Year 6. Please consult the individual school websites when they announce the dates nearer the time.
Entrance exam test
Trafford Grammar Schools’ entrance exam usually takes place on September. Results for any testing are received no later than the end of October. AGSB exam is also usually in September.
Application
The Common Preference Form (CPF) is an application that must be returned to your home Local Education Authority (Trafford or Manchester) by 31st October, putting the schools in order of preference.

National Allocation Day
All children will be informed by their home Local Education Authority which secondary school they have been allocated on 1st March, or on the next working day.
